Giota Panopoulou is a health economist with over 15 years of professional experience in public health sector institutional restructuring; health system financing; inclusion of pharmaceuticals in public drug formularies and pharmaceutical price negotiations; hospital performance; and design, implementation and evaluation of health reforms. She is currently the Director of Project Planning and Promotion at the Medica Sur Clinical Foundation. Previously she served as an advisor to the Undersecretary of Health in the Mexican Ministry of Health, where she led work on risk-sharing/outcome-based schemes for high-cost drugs across government and the pharmaceutical sector and on performance-based ranking of public hospitals. Dr. Panopoulou has also worked at the Mexican Health Foundation, an influential health policy think tank; as advisor to the CFO of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS); and as a Health Economist at the World Bank in the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and the Europe and Central Asia regions. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Sussex.
